Does the Hooded Crow (Corvus cornix) harbour vancomycin-resistant enterococci in Hungary?

چکیده

Vancomycin resistant enterococci (VRE) are high priority nosocomial bacteria with a potential for zoonotic transmission. Thus, its emergence outside health establishments is major concern. In order to study the prevalence of VRE in wildlife, we collected 221 faecal samples from free-ranging Hooded Crow (Corvus cornix) urban and rural habitats Hungary, March August 2020. The screening was done using bile esculin azide (BEA) agar supplemented Vancomycin, specific VRE. None either habitat types yielded It seems that Crows Hungary do not necessarily constitute reservoir VREs at present. Nonetheless, continuous surveillance wildlife would be judicious.

Vancomycin-resistant enterococci.

Enterococci, a part of normal gut flora, are not particularly pathogenic organisms in humans. For example, they do not cause respiratory tract infections. The most frequent enterococcal infections are urinary tract infections. Despite their lack of pathogenicity, enterococci have emerged as significant nosocomial pathogens in the United States and elsewhere. Enterococci are formidable pathogens...

Vancomycin-resistant enterococci.

After they were first identified in the mid-1980s, vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) spread rapidly and became a major problem in many institutions both in Europe and the United States. Since VRE have intrinsic resistance to most of the commonly used antibiotics and the ability to acquire resistance to most of the current available antibiotics, either by mutation or by receipt of foreign g...

Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci, Mexico City

To the Editor: Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) has become an important nosocomial pathogen because of its rapid spread, limited therapy options, mortality, and the possibility of transfer of vancomycin resistance to other pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus. Vancomycin-resistant E. faecium (VREF) and E. faecalis were fi rst described in 1988 (1,2).They have become major noso-comial ...

Emergence of vancomycin-resistant enterococci.

Vancomycin and ampicillin resistance in clinical Enterococcus faecium strains has developed in the past decade. Failure to adhere to strict infection control to prevent the spread of these pathogens has been well established. New data implicate the use of specific classes of antimicrobial agents in the spread of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). Extended-spectrum cephalosporins and drugs ...
